Herringbone Paver Pattern
Herringbone locks rectangular units into a 45° or 90° zig-zag that transfers load between units. It is the strongest paver pattern under vehicular traffic and the standard for driveways, drive aisles and fire lanes.

Design notes
Lay 45° herringbone across the direction of travel on driveways. The 90° version is simpler to install and still far stronger than running bond.
Laying and waste
Pattern choice changes labor and waste before it changes anything else. Straight rectangular fields run about 5% waste; diagonals, curves and borders push that to 10% or more. Confirm the unit's true (actual) dimensions rather than the nominal size when planning the layout.
