Accessible paved routes need a firm, stable, slip-resistant surface, openings no wider than 1/2", level changes held to 1/4" (or beveled to 1/2"), running slope at or under 1:20 where no ramp is provided, and cross slope at or under 1:48. Detectable warning units mark transitions into vehicular ways.

What to specify for ada & accessible paving
Use tight-jointed units on accessible routes, keep chamfer depth modest, and verify installed tolerances rather than assuming the nominal spec. Detectable warning (truncated dome) units must contrast visually with the adjoining surface and follow the required dome geometry and placement.
Design direction
A contrasting-color detectable warning field satisfies visual contrast while still coordinating with the paving palette — most projects use a dark field against light paving or the reverse.
