Chamfer

The small bevel around the top face of a paver.

A chamfer defines each unit visually, protects the top edge from chipping, and channels water into the joints. Micro-chamfer and no-chamfer units read as a flatter, more monolithic surface and are common on contemporary plazas and accessible routes.
